For Prospective Students
If you are interested in joining my group or collaborating with us, please read the information on this page prior to contacting me!
PhD Students
For Fall 2027, I plan to recruit 1-2 PhD students, from all areas of natural language processing and reinforcement learning. I’m also open to working with students with backgrounds in human-AI interaction, AI safety, or computational cognitive science.
Unfortunately, due to a large influx of AI-generated emails, I am no longer able to respond to emails from prospective students prior to interviews or admission. (In general, emailing professors at most US-based Computer Science PhD programs prior to admission is not necessary or encouraged.) However, as long as you apply to TTIC and mention my name in your application, I can guarantee that it will get routed to me, and that I will read it carefully. Admission is highly competitive, but TTIC has no application fee, and I encourage you to apply: https://www.ttic.edu/studentapplication/
I co-wrote some advice for NLP PhD applicants which can be found here. In addition to this advice, I ask that you please do not use AI to generate or polish your application materials, as it makes it harder for me to assess applications.
Undergraduate and Masters Students
While I am not actively recruiting undergraduate or masters students, our lab maintains an expression of interest form for potential collaborators and research advisees. For the sake of my inbox, please fill out this form instead of emailing me. We will review applications on a rolling basis (at least once per quarter).
